Why Do We Need To Drink Water?Drink Water

Water is the most important thing we put into our body!! You could live for three weeks without food, not a good idea!! But you could only live for three days without fluid, even worse idea!! Water makes up two thirds of our bodies. Brain cells are 80-90% fluid and muscle cells are 60-70% fluid.

Water is involved in nearly every body process including some very important for reaching fitness goals:

  • Transporting and carrying nutrients between cells in the body
  • Exchanging oxygen we breathe in with the carbon dioxide we breathe out
  • Excretion of waste products in our urine

Additionally, water keeps your skin healthy and helps reduce wrinkles!! It helps reduce your chances of a headaches and helps to get rid of them!!!


How much water do we need?

The simple recommendation is

“ More than you're drinking now”


The scientific recommendation is

Stay hydratedOne litre of fluid for every twenty-five kilograms of body weight and one litre extra for every hour of exercise.

We lose at least one and a half litres everyday through our urine, sweat and our breath. When we exercise, or in a warmer climates this amount increases dramatically!!

It is better to hydrate the body progressively during the day, rather than trying to re-hydrate it once it has already become dehydrated. As a general rule if you are thirsty and you have dry lips then you are already dehydrated.

Water intake can come from many things we consume including:

  • Water
  • Juice
  • Cordial
  • Milk
  • Fruit and Vegetables
  • Tea

However, by far the BEST source of hydration is Water and as an added bonus it wont contain any calories you will need to burn off afterwards.
